Artist Statement: Doubtless it is no coincidence that the first instinct of a child out of the womb is screaming, stimulated by the need to slap a nurse determined to give him a taste of what the expected between his birth and death. It should, it seems, always rely on his first impression, and this primal groan very much like a premonition. As if, even before its first contaminated layer (and read the unemployment statistics in his favorite newspaper), the baby was worried about her future. An anxiety shared by his parents, who are already wondering, between two bottles, what career will enter their offspring, so much so that if the night crying newborn were not enough, they lose sleep! Especially since, unlike their ancestors, the unfortunate have both embarrassment and choice … In the past, a farmer knew that his descendants would work the land, like him, and it would take at least six boys firmly built to plow the fields. The scions of the nobility had the choice between the soldier’s armor for the elder and the priestly robe for her junior. As for the upper middle class, she founded dynasties of notaries, doctors or lawyers in respectable provincial towns. Not to mention that this time, the child was not yet king, no question too attached to a little one who might pass from life to death well before landing his first job. But today, things have changed. The future is conjugated in the plural, and is already preparing the door of the kindergarten. Mom and Dad are trying to imagine what will become the flesh of their flesh, develop scenarios and often project their own fantasies, embody them through the creature, still unaware of any fight it is the issue, shimmying on his activity mat.

Like all, we wonder about the future of our children. Will they be lawyers, nurses, priests or a superhero? See for yourself, but to decide them, wishing them to be able to offer the ultimate luxury: that of choosing their own destiny.
